May 21, 2026 - FASThe first leg of the ACC Shopee Cup™ final between Selangor FC and Buriram United FC at MBPJ Stadium yesterday ended in a 0-1 defeat, despite Selangor FC controlling large parts of the match.
In the first half, Selangor FC dominated possession, recording more passes and attempts, but were unable to convert their chances. The only goal of the match came in the 25th minute through Suphanat Mueanta. The Red Giants continued to apply pressure in the second half, but Buriram United’s disciplined defence and Selangor’s lack of clinical finishing prevented the equaliser. Although disappointed with the result, the overall performance shows the team is still capable of bouncing back in the second leg in Thailand.
According to Kim Pan-gon, he expressed disappointment at not fully utilising home advantage but was proud of the character shown by the players.
“In the first half, the team struggled and made too many mistakes. However, in the second half, we played better, controlled the game, and created many chances. The players showed great character and matched Buriram United, one of Asia’s elite teams. Despite their quality, we were still able to compete well. This is a positive we will take into the away leg,” he said.
“There are still 90 minutes to play. It will certainly be tough, but as Selangor FC, we must remain strong and make our supporters and Malaysians proud. We will focus on thorough preparations for the second leg,” emphasised Kim Pan-gon.
Next week, the Selangor FC squad will travel to Thailand for the second leg of the ACC Shopee Cup™ final at Buriram Stadium on Wednesday, 27 May, at 8 PM Malaysian time.
Selangor FC management is confident the team will bounce back and prepare well for the decisive second leg, aiming to make the club’s supporters and Malaysians proud.
Come on, Red Giants!
Demi Kebanggaan! ????
